The image shows the little girl walking along a path – however, a bizarre optical illusion makes it appear that half of her body has been “swallowed up by concrete”.
Sharing the image on Reddit, the mum wrote: “My daughter, where’s the rest of her? Ohh I see, do you?”
The post left Reddit and Facebook users stumped for hours, with thousands saying they had no idea how to make sense of the photograph.
“Where is the rest of her body?” said one.
Added another: “Been looking for two hours and am utterly stumped. Stumped.”
Said a third: “Anyone else finding this way too hard to work out?”
Added one more: “Nope! Driving me insane! Looks like she’s in cement.”
Wrote another: “I still can’t see it, it’s killing me!”
Eventually an eagle-eyed user pointed out that the child was walking behind a wall, which came up to her waist, that was the same colour as a path.
“This is a wall edge, the rest of her body is behind it and she’s resting her elbow on the wall. Took me ages!” said one.
Sharing an image of her explanation, you can see the outline of the wall that separates the child from the path.
Even with the photo guidance, many were still baffled.
“It’s annoying ‘cause even with the pictures I still can’t see it!” said one.
Wrote another: “I give up, the internet wins. Still can’t work it out.”
Said one more: “Even with all your answers I still couldn’t see it! It took me far longer than it should have.”
But others were grateful to finally know the answer.
“Once you see the wall, you can’t unsee it,” wrote one Facebook user.
Another commented: “OMG NOW I see it – been bothering me all day!”
