‘I Will Be With You’: Butterflies Land On Bride’s Dress During Moving Tribute To Her Late Father

Amy Rose Perry always knew she wanted to incorporate a special tribute to her late father in her Cape Cod wedding. Her father passed away from cancer at the young age of 36 when Amy was only seven years old.

To honor his memory, she decided to release monarch butterflies during the ceremony—a symbol of transformation and a poignant reminder of her father’s enduring presence in her life.

Growing up, Amy received letters from her father, written before his death, for all of life’s significant moments. These letters became treasured keepsakes, offering guidance and love from beyond the grave. The letter intended for her wedding day was the most challenging for her to read.

“Of all the cards I have written you, this is obviously the most difficult,” her father’s letter began. He continued, “I will be with you in your heart as you walk down the aisle.”

The wedding day arrived, a beautiful occasion filled with love, joy, and heartfelt memories. At the end of the ceremony, Amy opened a box of monarch butterflies. The plan was for the butterflies to fly away, symbolizing her father’s spirit soaring free.

However, the butterflies had a different idea.

Instead of taking flight, they landed gently on Amy’s dress and remained there, accompanying her and her new husband as they walked down the aisle together.

“Instead of flying away, they landed all over her dress and flowers, on Matt’s boutonnière, and on her sister’s bouquet,” she said.

It was an emotional experience for everyone present.

“I don’t think there was a dry eye at this beautiful ceremony,” Perkins added.
