They met when Patrick started dance school. Lisa was 15 and Swayze was 18.

“I was born to be a father,” Swayze said, according to Closer magazine. Some time later, Lisa suffered another miscarriage, and the couple’s heart was broken again. Patrick did not want to give up on his dream of one day being a father until the very end.
“I was dying to have the chance to be a father, to have children with this woman I loved so much. And I wanted to be the best father I could be, the kind of father my father had been to me,” Patrick Swayze wrote in his memoir “The Time of My Life,” according to the Boston Globe . Years passed, and Lisa and Patrick never got to see the big day when they became parents.

As she struggles with the pain of losing her son, she was pained to know how much her husband wanted to be a father. “We both loved children and we both hoped to have children one day,” she says in the documentary “I Am Patrick Swayze,” according to Closer Weekly .
How could anyone imagine that the physical pain of losing a child was just as emotionally painful? “It broke my heart. I said, ‘What do you think about adoption? ’ But he had already made up his mind. ‘I want to have a child with you,’ he said.

“After I brought him home, everything happened so quickly. I enjoyed every second of our time alone, holding his hand, listening to music, sleeping with my arm around him, my head on his shoulder.”
After his death, Patrick left a handwritten love letter to his wife.
Shortly afterward, ABC’s “Good Morning America” released an audio clip in which Swayze can be heard narrating parts of the letter, according to NBC New York.
“How grateful I am that you chose to love me,” Swayze wrote. “I know that because of you I have found my peace. I saw the man I wanted to be. You are my wife, my lover, my friend and my woman. I loved you forever, I love you now and I will love you forever.”
Niemi also spoke about how much she loved her husband in an interview with The Times. “We were telling each other all the time that we loved each other. I never left the room without telling him. But no matter how many times I did it, it never seemed enough,” Lisa tells Woman magazine .
Five years after Patrick’s death, Niemi remarried Albert DePrisco in 2014.
