Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship has reached a breaking point, with the brothers no longer in communication and a reconciliation appearing unlikely. Once considered each other’s closest allies, the two have reportedly not spoken in years. While Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Harry’s children, were thought to potentially serve as a bridge between the families, another member of the Royal Family has recently been identified as a possible mediator.
The release of Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, further damaged his ties with the Royal Family. In the book, Harry criticized several family members, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Kate Middleton, and William. It’s been suggested that Harry may be seeking a way to repair relations with his family, but reports claim Meghan Markle is allegedly opposed to his return to royal life.
Prince William, however, seems uninterested in reconciliation, with one royal expert predicting the brothers might only cross paths again at King Charles’ funeral. Despite Harry’s apparent anger over his and Meghan’s treatment, there are hints that he may regret some of the claims made in his memoir.
Harry’s Spare revealed explosive details about his life and strained relationships within the Royal Family. The book highlighted one of their most contentious moments: a physical altercation between Harry and William in 2019 at Harry’s London home. According to Harry, William accused Meghan of being “abrasive,” “rude,” and “difficult,” accusations Harry believed echoed media narratives. The argument escalated, leading to William “grabbing me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocking me to the floor.”
Prince Harry shared details of a physical altercation with Prince William in his memoir.
“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” Harry wrote.
The Duke also described how William encouraged him to retaliate, referencing their childhood fights. However, when Harry refused, William left but later returned “looking regretful, and apologized.” Harry mentioned that the incident left him with visible injuries on his back.
The Royal Family has not addressed Harry’s allegations and likely will remain silent on the matter. The brothers have reportedly only met once since attending a funeral last summer.
As King Charles’ reign continues, it is expected that Prince William will ascend to the throne upon his father’s passing. However, reports suggest that William may not invite Harry to his coronation. A source told The Times that the Prince of Wales plans for his coronation to “look and feel different” and might exclude Harry from the event. The source added, “They are estranged, which is dreadfully sad,” noting that the brothers last spoke nearly two years ago.
Prince William could exclude Harry from his coronation
Prince William could potentially exclude Prince Harry from his coronation, but royal expert and author Christopher Andersen told Fox that he was “convinced” the Duke would still be present.
“Despite all the bad blood between the brothers, I’m convinced that, when the time does come, William will not be foolish enough to exclude his only sibling, now fifth in line to the throne, from his coronation,” Andersen remarked.
He added, “Things probably have never been worse between the brothers than they are now. William and Charles have pretty much made the joint decision to effectively cut Harry out of their lives, at least for the time being. There is no sign of a reconciliation on the horizon, and everyone involved seems to have pretty much come to terms with that.”
Andersen continued, “That being said, we have to remember that William is carrying a very heavy psychological burden at the moment. He is deeply upset that his wife and his father are battling cancer at the same time. He must keep a brave face not only for his three young children but also for the sake of the monarchy.”
Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced about Prince Harry seeking a way back to the UK. Reports suggest he misses his old friends there and may even be exploring permanent housing options. Harry and Meghan once resided in Frogmore Cottage, but they were evicted by King Charles shortly after Spare was released.
Princess Eugenie branded “peace keaper” between Harry & William
Princess Eugenie has been described as a “peacekeeper” between Prince Harry and Prince William, with many believing she could play a pivotal role in mending the brothers’ strained relationship.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has reportedly been urged to discourage Prince Harry from ever returning to the UK. While reconciliation between the Sussexes and the royal family—particularly King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton—remains uncertain, their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might hold the key to bridging the gap. King Charles is said to be heartbroken over the limited interaction he’s had with his grandchildren, while Archie and Lilibet’s cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, have virtually no relationship with them. Experts suggest this growing distance could harm the children’s future, as they might never truly know their UK relatives.
Despite this, former royal butler Grant Harrold, who served King Charles for seven years, has suggested another perspective on who could lead efforts for reconciliation. Speaking to Yahoo, Harrold proposed that Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, could become a key figure in helping Harry and William mend their rift.
“Eugenie is very close to William and Harry, she always has been, always will be,” Harrold shared. “I’m sure that if she could, she would probably try to play peacekeeper with William and Harry, but it’s hard to say as we don’t know exactly what is going on behind closed doors.” According to Harrold, Eugenie “cares about them both deeply” and could step in to help the brothers find common ground.
Prince Harry reportedly “regrets” writing about Prince William in Spare.
“I’m sure if she can help, she probably would try and intervene between the two of them, if she can help bring the brothers back together, of course she would. She’s their cousin and she cares about them both deeply,” a source said, commenting on the possibility of family reconciliation.
Following Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were said to have reached out with their support. At the same time, reports suggested that Harry regretted including harsh comments about his sister-in-law in his memoir. According to a source quoted by the Mirror, Harry might have similar feelings about his brother.
“Although Harry is glad he finally got his say on everything that went on with Spare, there is part of him that has some regrets over it all and the way it was handled,” the source explained.
The source added, “He was still very angry about how he was treated by his family and wanted them to know and felt his book was the only way they’d listen. But looking back, he’s not sure it was handled in the right way and he has faced a lot of criticism for it and hurt his family a lot.”
“Harry still wants to have a relationship with them and is hoping that in 2025, he can make that happen. A lot has gone on since Spare was released and he didn’t update the paperback version – so he is hopeful he can repair the relationship,” the source concluded.
Prince William has ‘no room in his heart’ to deal with Prince Harry, expert says
Despite any desire Prince Harry may have for a reunion with his brother and the Royal Family, Prince William appears uninterested. Royal expert Jennie Bond noted that mending his relationship with Harry isn’t even close to being a priority for William. Interestingly, when Prince Harry celebrated his birthday, a greeting was shared on William and Kate’s official social media accounts.
“I still think things are too sensitive for a meaningful reconciliation with William, but the fact that he and Catherine authorised the greeting to be posted is definitely an unexpected turn of events,” Bond told OK!, referring to the birthday post for Harry from the Prince and Princess of Wales, as reported by the Mirror.
“I don’t think we should hold our breath for the step to really signal the start of a reconciliation, but it was an unexpected turn of events,” she explained.
Bond further commented: “William has so much on his plate at the moment that I don’t think he has room in his heart or head to deal with all that has gone on with Harry. While the brothers may never be close again, or even live on the same continent, it doesn’t mean that the future has to be full of bitterness and bad blood. Catherine is right. Family should always be paramount.”
