What Might Happen If You Wear Your Watch All Day Long

Whether you prefer a fitness tracker or a classic watch, it might feel tempting to put it on and wear it all the time. From counting your steps to monitoring your sleep, modern watches can do so much more than simply tell you the time. But, as it turns out, never taking off your watch may lead to some pretty unpleasant consequences.

Here at Alternatech, we also are guilty of going to bed wearing our smartwatches, but we probably will reconsider this habit after we learn what potential problems it may pose.

1. You may feel wrist pain.

If you never take off your watch, the continuous compression of the nerves at the wrist might cause painful sensations. And if your watch is too bulky and heavy, and you wear it too tight, this eventually may lead to nerve damage. If you feel any numbness or tingling in your wrist, try to adjust and loosen the band or give yourself a break from wearing your watch.

2. It might lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.

If you keep ignoring the discomfort caused by wearing your watch all the time, it may eventually lead to quite unpleasant consequences, like carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition is caused by the constant compression of nerves and can make you feel constant soreness and weakness in your hand, even if you don’t wear your watch anymore.

3. You may notice marks on your wrist.

Although the band of your watch should fit tightly enough to prevent it from sliding off your wrist, it shouldn’t press against your skin and leave any itchy imprints. Light marks on your skin that go away very quickly don’t pose any problems, but if you notice red marks that stay on your skin for quite some time, it might be a sign that you’re wearing your watch too tightly. If you don’t loosen your watch strap or give your skin a chance to breathe, it may lead to irritation and a rash in the long run.

4. It might give you muscle cramps.

If you wear your favorite watch 24/7, the constant compression from the band may restrict blood circulation, causing numbness. The lack of blood flow, in turn, might lead to painful muscle cramps and even affect how you perform at your job.

How often do you wear your watch? Have you ever noticed any discomfort from wearing it?
