Why You Shouldn’t Use Toilet Paper on the Plane, According to a Flight Attendant

A flight attendant has warned travellers about toilet paper on planes.

Many flight attendants advise passengers not to use toilet paper on the plane but to bring their own personal tissues, do you know why?

To meet the needs of passengers, especially for long flights, airlines try to create maximum conditions for eating, sleeping and cleaning. For long flights, passengers are also provided with face towels and brushes to use during the flight.

However, Brenda – a flight attendant from Miami (USA) – advised passengers not to use toilet paper on the plane but to bring their own personal tissues to use.

What are the reasons why toilet paper should not be used on planes?

According to Brenda, this item has many potential health risks. The flight attendant explained that when the plane suddenly moved, the water in the tank could be splashed with toilet paper rolls. On the other hand, some male passengers when going to the toilet may cause urine to splash on the toilet paper roll without timely treatment, just let the paper roll dry itself and the next passenger does not know it, continue to use it.

Although these situations do not occur frequently, the risk is still present, and passengers who unfortunately encounter it will suffer health effects.

Another flight attendant named Cierra Mistt also shared the same on Tiktok, warning passengers about the danger from toilet paper rolls in airplane toilets. According to her, usually the toilets are cleaned quite loudly during the transition period between the two flights. Sometimes employees only briefly wipe the toilet on the plane and take out the garbage, not clean it with disinfectant solutions.

After the plane takes off, the toilet will be checked about every 30 minutes or so. However, if there is an emergency, this will not be a priority. Therefore, when using toilet equipment, passengers need to pay attention to wiping before and after use, prepare their own personal wipes and wash their hands thoroughly to limit bacterial infection.

Flight attendants also advise passengers not to go barefoot to the toilet and to wear a mask when they want to use public toilets.

Carrying towels for disinfection should be applied in all public places, not just on planes.

In addition to noting that toilet paper should not be used on plane, flight attendants also give some tips when using in-flight services to ensure safety:

– It is recommended to use disposable disinfectant wipes or spray disinfectant solution on door handles, toilet lids, or toilet sinks before touching.

– It is recommended to wear shoes, sandals, socks or bare feet when entering the aircraft toilet.

– If you wear clothes such as pants or skirts, dresses over heels or too wide, you need to roll them up neatly before going to the toilet to avoid sewage and stains from sticking to them.

– After going to the toilet, remember to wipe off the water that you dropped, flush the toilet, and throw the paper in the trash.

– Wash your hands thoroughly with soap to remove bacteria; It is recommended to regularly spray hand sanitizer regularly during the flight, especially before and after eating.
